02 Handling of complex products and specialist logistics

History

Milestones in our business

1991

Company founded

In 1991, Urtica began operations, taking its first steps in the Polish pharmaceutical distribution market.
1997

Launch of the CSR initiative – Urtica for Children

‘Urtica for Children’ is being launched – a project run by the company to support children in oncology and haematology wards.
1999

Joining Pelion S.A.

Urtica is joining the Pelion S.A. Group – one of the largest groups operating in the healthcare sector in Europe and the leader in the Polish market for the supply of pharmaceutical products to hospitals.
2016

Opening of a distribution centre in Łódź

Urtica operates a distribution centre in Łódź, which forms a key part of its logistics infrastructure. The facility supports the efficient and safe distribution of products to customers throughout Poland.
2017

Establishment of the Urtica for Children Foundation

After 20 years of the Urtica Dzieciom project, the Urtica Dzieciom Foundation is established. In the years that follow, it is granted the status of a Public Benefit Organisation.
2022

GDP Certification for Wholesale Distributors

We have been awarded the Good Distribution Practice certificate for wholesale distribution, which confirms that our processes comply with the quality and safety requirements for the distribution of medicinal products.
2024

Joining the UNGC

In 2024, Urtica joins the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest initiative bringing together companies committed to sustainable and responsible business practices.

Launch of the e-Urtica portal

Urtica is launching the e-Urtica online collaboration portal. It is a web-based platform for customers, designed to manage logistics, orders and complaints in pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

Authorisation to export medicines

We have been granted authorisation to carry out export operations involving medicinal products in accordance with the amendment to the GIF licence.

Urtica is developing facilities for radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine

We have obtained authorisation from the PAA to store radioactive sources and waste.

A nationwide competition which, since 1997, has recognised companies and corporate foundations that are particularly committed to social causes. It is organised by the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland. The Polish Entrepreneurs’ Federation (FPP) Economic Awards of the Year are presented in several categories, including investments, ESG initiatives, innovation and technology, digital transformation and labour market activation.

Forbes Diamonds

A nationwide ranking of the fastest-growing companies in Poland, compiled by the editorial team of *Forbes Polska* in collaboration with Dun & Bradstreet. The title is awarded to companies that increased their value the fastest during the period under review. Factors taken into account include, amongst others, financial results and the value of the company’s assets, whilst the valuation is based on the so-called Swiss method, which combines the income and asset-based approaches. Companies with a positive financial result and an appropriate level of creditworthiness are eligible for inclusion in the list.

The Lower Silesian Golden Hundred

A ranking of the largest and best-performing companies in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, compiled by *Gazeta Wrocławska* in collaboration with Dun & Bradstreet. Companies are assessed primarily on the basis of their financial results as set out in their annual reports, and the ranking is intended to highlight companies of significant importance to the region’s economy.

An award presented to companies as part of the POLITYKA CSR List, organised by the weekly magazine *Polityka*. Is Urtica a distributor of medicines?

Pharmaceutical distribution is a key area of our business. Depending on your needs, we can also handle market analysis, the management of regulatory procedures and contracts, sales, collaboration with healthcare facilities, warehousing, stock management, reporting and communication with healthcare professionals.

Which target audiences does Urtica focus its sales and distribution on?

We handle sales and distribution to, amongst others, hospitals and hospital pharmacies, high-street pharmacies, wholesalers and other authorised professional customers. Cooperation may involve both purchases made through tender procedures and sales conducted outside such procedures – in accordance with the relevant rules for the product and customer in question.

Does Urtica handle generic, originator and innovative medicines?

We work on generic, originator and innovative products. The scope may include both regular distribution and products requiring specific arrangements for stock, logistics, sales or reporting. We always tailor the detailed model to the product and project.

Is Urtica open to collaborating with smaller-scale producers?

The size of a company does not, in itself, determine how we work together. We start by looking at the product, the project and the partner’s needs, and then we establish the appropriate scope of work, model of cooperation and division of responsibilities.

Does Urtica monitor the market, business practices, prices and the market environment?

We analyse the available data on procedures, prices, competition, sales and purchasing patterns. We determine the scope and frequency of our analyses and reporting in line with the specific requirements of each project.

Can Urtica store a product that remains the property of the manufacturer?

We can provide the agreed warehousing and logistics services without having to take ownership of the product. We set out the scope of the processes, reporting and responsibilities as part of our collaboration.

What reporting features does Urtica offer?

We determine the scope of reporting on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the processes involved, this may include, amongst other things, sales and orders, stock levels and movements, stock turnover, expiry dates, contract fulfilment and deliveries.

How can a hospital or other healthcare organisation start working with Urtica?

New customers can start by making an enquiry about sourcing, a product or a targeted import. Once we have received your enquiry, we will determine the appropriate course of action and the information required to begin our collaboration.
